Centrifugal juicers are great. They are the easiest of the electric juicer types to use, you just put your fruits and veggies (often whole) into the large feed chutes, press on the plunger and you got juice. While some companies claim that you can make a juice in as little as 4 seconds, this is in a very specific case. The case being that you have several apples (with a diameter no greater than 3" so that it fits in the feed chute) ready to go and you just put them in the juicer and bingo.
This is true if you are quick about it. However, if you are juicing several things such as carrots, celery and apples, then it may take you 15 - 20 seconds. Nothing to complain about really! It takes quite a bit longer to make a juice if you are using a masticating juicer machine, both in the prepping and actual juicing phases.
This list of the 5 best centrifugal juicers is going to lean heavily in favor of the Breville models, simply because they are great. Personally I think Breville makes the best centrifugal juicer machines - hands down - and the number of outstanding reviews at Amazon for their products are in agreement with me. This juicer is serious raw power housed in a beautiful shiny body. Think German cars - they look great, they run great, they go fast, and they rarely break down and they last a loooong time. This is what you get with the Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite. The second you take this juicer out of the box, you instantly know you are looking at quality.
The next thing you will notice, beside the jet-engine starting, is how this machine turns fruits and veggies into juice just like they are butter. This juicer has a 1000-watt motor that is the most powerful of any home centrifugal juicer presently available. So powerful in fact that Breville has provided a two-speed switch to turn things down for softer produce. The high speed dishes out an awesome 13,000 RPM (revolutions per minute), and the low setting gives you half of that.
The Breville BJE10XL is slightly cheaper than its slighty more powerful brother the Breville 800JEXL (1000-watts) reviewed above. This juicer has 5 control levels to match that which you are juicing, fitting the right fruit or veggie to the right speed means a better juice yield. Breville makes this easy for you too, they show you on the machine which speed you need for what type of fruit or veggie. See the pic to the right. This is a nice feature and is my favorite thing about this juice extractor. I also really like the smart-chip feature - a response system that automatically adjusts power for heavy loads.
Even though it is a little less powerful than the Breville 800JEXL, there is little in it. On the top setting that provides 12,000 RPM, this machine turns tough veggies into juice without a murmur.
Another excellent offering from Breville that is a big hit with me and reviewers is the Breville JE98XL. At time of writing this juicer has over 900 reviews at Amazon and high rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars. An impressive score for so many reviews. You will not find a better juicer for $150.
This is still a serious power-house of a juicer, providing 850 watts of power and a two speed option of either 12,000 RPM or 6,500 RPM. Compare this with the famous and similarly priced (but IMHO not very good) Jack Lalanne Juicer machine that provides only 1 speed setting of a measly 3,5000 RPM, and you start to see the difference. When you put tough veggies in the Jack Lalanne Juicer you will hear it splutter, and there are many complaints about the motor quickly burning out. However, you will not read such complaints with this Breville JE98XL, as with all the Breville juicers you get high-power and longevity. It will be a long time before you need another juicing machine.
This small but not to be messed with juicer is high-quality, powerful machine packed into a small frame. I think this Breville BJE200XL is hands down the best juicer for the money. For $99 it is awesome, and it is just awesome anyway. Over 2300 reviewers at Amazon agree too, making this the most reviewed juicer there by double. With so many reviews it even gets the impressive high rating of 4.5 out 5 stars.
Because this machine is so compact, yet powerful, it is the one that I take on the road with me, especially if I am going to stay with family of friends for a weekend or a couple of days. Not that it cannot be used everyday, this machine stands up to daily use for years, as all the Breville juicers do, it is just that I have a lot of juicing machines at home 🙂
Undoubtedly, my first pick for the best budget juicer is the Breville BJE200XL reviewed above. However, if the $99 it costs is a little more than you are willing to pay, then I have to give a honorary mention to the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Juice Extractor. The only non-Breville juicer to make my top 5 list. It retails for about $70, but is often on offer at Amazon for about $50. For $50, this is a decent machine.
Even for the price, this machine still houses an 800-watt motor, which is plenty of power for turning fruits and veggies into their liquid selves. It may not have the longevity or the look of a Breville, but this juicer does its job. Expect to replace it sooner than the Breville BJE200XL reviewed above.
